City Gardener for Örebro Municipality

About the Position

The Park Unit is responsible for planning the operation, maintenance, and development of Örebro's parks and green areas. In recent years, the development work of the Park Unit, especially in the area of children's outdoor environments, has been recognized with both Örebro Municipality's internal quality award and a nomination for the Swedish Architects' Planning Award.

As City Gardener, you will work to create an attractive and sustainable city and municipality through the development of our parks. You will lead the strategic development work of the Park Unit, strive to create engagement for the city's green environments, and be an outward face for Örebro's parks. The goals in Örebro's Green Strategy particularly highlight the importance of parks for the health and well-being of Örebro residents, as well as how they can contribute to social cohesion and various ecosystem services.

You will be involved in the Park Unit's work with maintenance and development plans, investments, and ordering operations, as well as contribute expert knowledge in green issues in the planning process. You will also drive prioritized development issues where a strong focus is placed on implementing set goals in reality. In this work, collaboration with employees within park operations will be important, as well as collaboration with other units responsible for various urban planning issues, nature conservation, public health, and culture and leisure. Green issues are divided among several different units and administrations in Örebro Municipality. As City Gardener, you can contribute to stronger cooperation across administrative boundaries and participate in various forums and network groups.

In your role as City Gardener, you will work closely with the unit manager of the Park Unit, and the employees in this unit will be your closest colleagues.

• collaborate with external parties

About the Workplace

At Park and Street, you will be part of a large group with many different competencies and high engagement creating public environments that are accessible to everyone. We work to ensure that Örebro is a pleasant, safe, and clean city with secure and good communications. You will be based at Citypassagen, but you will often find us out on the streets and in parks of Örebro. The Park Unit currently has seven employees.

Qualifications

As City Gardener, we see that you are a good and pedagogical communicator with the ability to translate theory into practice. Collaborating across boundaries is natural for you, and you involve and engage others. You are attentive to surrounding operations and have an understanding of different perspectives and viewpoints. You are skilled at nurturing relationships, both internally and externally, and have the ability to create participation and consensus. Furthermore, we see that you have a strategic ability where you start from the big picture, plan for the future, and act to create safe development and innovation. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Requirements:

• degree in landscape architecture or another academic degree in sustainable community building that the employer deems equivalent
• several years of experience in strategic development of public green environments
• experience in applying a coaching leadership style
• experience in organizational development
• driver's license B

Meritorious:

• experience in practical management and development of green environments
